In this digital social media age, we're used to anyone and everyone pushing themselves into the limelight. 'Advertising' themselves. Promoting themselves. For artists, it's more of a challenge. Now, but especially during Lloyd's day. He was ahead of the curve back in the late 19th century. He learned to pick and choose from his myriad of promotional portraits.
Here's one proof sheet where he was trying to evaluate which image would be best for a bookplate or promotional handout.
