Martha Elizabeth lived merely one year. Bethel Mifflin, a bit over five years. What would these two Mifflins have accomplished in their lives had they the opportunity? And, as I examine the dates of all the children, I can't help but hold Elizabeth Ann, the mother, to a level of supreme admiration and respect. Sadly, five years after the death of Bethel, she succumbed to the exceptional high demands of mid-19th century childbirth three days after Charles West Mifflin was born.

Martha and Bethel rest together, marked by a common stone in Mount Bethel Cemetery, Columbia, lying between their mother and father and the place of Lloyd's final recline—in a town where they were all born and where they all ended their journeys.
