Elusive Ladies

This charming photograph by Lloyd Mifflin—although diminished by the emulsion degradation—is enigmatic, even ghostly. The identity of the woman is unknown. But, it could be Lloyd's sister, Mary, or even the love of his life, Barbara Peart. For different reasons, both woman brought great tragedy into Lloyd's life.


The original glass plate negative is held by the Pennsylvania State Archives, which they generously allowed me to copy.
